Call for Committee Members: 2024 Graduate Student Conference

Dear Graduate Students,

Are you passionate about organizing events and eager to make a meaningful impact on our academic community? The City Institute at York University is seeking dedicated individuals to join the organizing committee for the 2024 Graduate Student Conference.

Positions Available:

  1. Student Chair: The Chairperson will oversee the entire planning process, coordinate meetings, and ensure the smooth execution of the conference. They will act as the main point of contact for all stakeholders.
  2. Student Talks & Presentations Coordinator: Responsible for developing the conference program, including selecting speakers, scheduling sessions, and coordinating presentations.
  3. Logistics Coordinator: Manages logistical aspects such as venue booking, help with catering, AV equipment, etc.
  4. Marketing and Communications Coordinator: Develops promotional materials, manages social media channels, and handles communication with participants and sponsors.
  5. Finance Student Coordinator: Helps the City Institute Coordinator with sponsorship acquisition, and financial reporting for the conference.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend Meetings: Regularly attend and actively participate in committee meetings to discuss progress, make decisions, and assign tasks.
  • Task Execution: Take ownership of assigned tasks and ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other committee members, faculty advisors, and external stakeholders to achieve conference goals.
  • Problem-Solving: Address challenges as they arise, seeking input from the committee to find effective solutions.

Conference Details:

  • Date: October 2024 (exact date to be confirmed, after reading week)
  • Location: City Institute at York University, Toronto, Canada
  • Theme: To be determined based on committee input and current academic trends
  • Goals: Foster interdisciplinary dialogue, showcase graduate research, and enhance networking opportunities for participants.
