Professor Lawrence Baron, The Armenian/Jewish Connection: Holocaust & Armenian Genocide Films – March 6, 2013

Location:  7th Floor York Research Tower, Rm. 764
Time:  4pm-7pm

Before the advent of the Holocaust, Europe’s Jews often cited the Armenian Genocide as a precedent for the Holocaust.  The Turkish campaign to deny that the Armenian Genocide occurred and the proliferation of Holocaust films turned the tables around.  This lecture looks at how the Holocaust films have influenced Armenian Genocide films.

Lawrence Baron, Nasatir Chair of Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University (emeritus) is the author or editor of The Modern Jewish Experience in World Cinema, Projecting the Holocaust into the Present:  The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema, and other volumes on film, the Holocaust, and Jewish Studies.
