What is Relay?

How Does Relay for Life Work?

Relay for Life is a team-based event where participants form teams and take turns walking or running around a track or path for several hours. Each team is encouraged to fundraise in the lead-up to the event, with the goal of raising as much money as possible for the Canadian Cancer Society. At the event, teams set up tents and participate in various activities, while taking turns walking or running around the track.

Throughout the night, there are also special ceremonies and events to honor and remember those who have been affected by cancer. These include the survivor lap, where cancer survivors take the first lap around the track, and the luminary ceremony, where candles are lit in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

What Happens at Relay for Life?

Relay for Life is not only a way to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, but it's also a fun-filled event with activities and special ceremonies throughout the night. Here are just a few examples of what you can expect at Relay:

  • Games, sports, and challenges for all participants
  • Live music, dance performances, and other entertainment
  • A photo booth to capture memories with your team
  • Cancer survivors and caregivers sharing their stories and inspiring others
  • A BBQ to enjoy delicious food with your team and other participants

Throughout the night, participants will take turns walking or running around the track, symbolizing their support for those affected by cancer. There will also be special events, such as the opening ceremony and the survivor lap, to recognize and celebrate the participants' efforts in supporting the Canadian Cancer Society. Whether you're a survivor, a caregiver, or just someone who wants to make a difference, Relay for Life is a great opportunity to have fun, make friends, and show your support for the Canadian Cancer Society.
