Girls STEMpowered

What is Girls STEMpowered?

Girls STEMpowered is a mentorship program aimed towards empowering current female grade 11 and 12 STEM oriented students. The seminar based program will cover university life, studying strategies, maximizing your schedule, balancing school and social life, and more! Our goal is to connect with high school students to encourage them to pursue a “challenging” degree and overcome the stigma surrounding women in STEM.

Who is Girls STEMpowered for?

Mentees

Current female grade 11 and 12 STEM oriented students from participating GTA (Greater Toronto Area) High Schools looking for insight into the life of a female student pursuing a STEM degree at a Canadian university.

Mentors

Our Mentors are female York University students and WiWC Members who are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field (health sciences and psychology included!) and who show a keen interest in sharing their experiences with high school students, de-stigmatizing women in STEM and highlighting their leadership abilities.
