Workstudy Positions

We are currently recruiting for Summer 2025 (10-20+ hours a week depending on the position) work study positions to fill various peer leader roles at Bethune College. Coordinator positions may have the possibility of continuing through the Fall/Winter 2025-2026 academic year, pending approval. Applications will be considered as they are received starting April 1, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. The final deadline for applications is April 15th, 2025, at midnight.

Application Process

All applicants must complete a multi-step application:

  2. During this process, applicants will be asked to complete a Work Study application to confirm their eligibility for the program.
  3. Applicants who are selected for workstudy positions will also be asked to create a YUHire account and apply through the YUHire platform to fulfill HR requirements prior to starting their employment.

  • An unofficial copy of your student transcript. Screen captures of transcript reports are acceptable.
  • A personal statement that discusses your experience for this role, any ideas you have for the program and any unique skills or abilities you feel you would bring to the role.

Job Duties

SOS Coordinators may be required to:

  • Assist the College Academic Coordinator in the recruitment and training of new SOS Leaders.
  • Assist the College Academic Coordinator with the tracking and evaluating of SOS programs.
  • Plan, organize and run numerous events throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with other SOS Coordinators to support student learning.
  • Keep records of meeting attendance and report regularly on their progress to the College Academic Coordinator.
  • Serve as a senior mentor for other SSMs and respond effectively to crisis situations providing support and de-escalation.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of a SOS recognition program to motivate and appreciate their leaders.
  • Assist with the development of learning activities and materials to support their SOS program.
  • Participate in the implementation of a training program for their program.
  • Liaise with current students and student leaders at York on matters pertaining to leadership development.
  • Write and send out regular communication to all volunteer or paid student leaders within their program.
  • Cultivate a sense of community and pride amongst Bethune College students.

Specific SOS Coordinators will have additional responsibilities related to their unique role:

  • Peer Mentor Coordinator
    • Schedule, supervise and support Peer Mentors in planning weekly seminars
    • Schedule and support Peer Mentors in holding regular drop-in office hours
    • Coach Peer Mentors in their interactions with their mentees
    • Plan for the future of the Peer Mentorship program
    • Assist with planning and  implementation of SOS events such as weekly seminars and social activities
  • Class Representative Coordinator
    • Recruit and Hire Class Representatives each semester
    • Plan and Facilitate Class Representative training
    • Provide ongoing support, coaching and instructions to the Class Representatives in each of their roles
    • Collect, organize and analyze data for each of the SOS programs
  • PASS Coordinator
    • Recruit and hire PASS leaders
    • Schedule all PASS sessions in collaboration with the Bethune College office
    • Coach Fall/Winter PASS leaders in running their sessions, including attending sessions to observe, provide feedback and ensure quality control
    • Ensure that PASS leaders are keeping records of study session attendance and other pertinent assessment data
  • Peer Tutor Coordinator
    • Recruit and Hire Peer Tutors
    • Schedule, supervise and support Peer Tutors in holding their regular tutoring hours
    • Coach and train Peer Tutors in their interactions with their tutees
    • Collect and analyze data, and plan for the future of the Peer Tutor program

New Student Programming Support Positions may include:

  • Support new student advising and work with YU Start to assist incoming first-year students
  • Evaluate, schedule and plan seminars for the Fall/Winter semesters
  • Organize and facilitate peer leader training
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Academic Orientation Day
  • Assist with advertising SOS services and events to students in Science and Lassonde
  • Lead tours and activities for students beginning their program in Fall 2025
  • Provide support to the Bethune College
