[Cynthia Goodfellow, the Administrative & Events Coordinator, welcomes everyone to the Calumet and Stong Colleges Leadership Awards Reception. The screen shows the Land Acknowledgement.]

So again I want to thank everyone for attending our Calumet and Stong Colleges Student Leadership Awards Celebration tonight. My name is Cynthia Goodfellow and I will be the emcee for this evening. We're now going to start the awards reception with the Land Acknowledgement read by one of our Peer Leaders Parmin Rahimpoor-Marnani.

[Parmin Rahimpoor-Marnani reads out the Land Acknowledgement. The screen shows the Land Acknowledgement.]

Thank you Cynthia and welcome everyone. As we are not all gathered in the same space we recognize that this land acknowledgement might not be for the territory that you are currently on we ask that if this is the case you take the responsibility to acknowledge the traditional territory you are on and the current treaty holders. We recognize that many Indigenous Nations have long-standing relationship with the territories upon which York University campuses are located that precede the establishment of York University. The significance of giving land acknowledgments is essentially showing recognition of and respect to Indigenous Peoples and their traditional or ancestral territories which are essential elements of establishing healthy reciprocal relations. It is also the way forward in the steps towards reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-indigenous Peoples.

York University acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have long-standing relationships with the territories upon which York University campuses are located that established that precede the establishment of York University. York University acknowledges its presence on the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. The area known as Tkaronto has been care taken by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat. It is now home to many First Nations, Inuit and Metis communities. We acknowledge the current treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This territory is subject of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes Region.

[Judith MacDonnell, the Associate Dean, Faculty of Health, welcomes everyone attending the event. The screen shows the order of ceremony.]

Good evening everyone. I'd also like to welcome you to this awards ceremony which celebrates those wonderful accomplishments of many of our Faculty of Health students, alumni, and fellows. It has been a distinct pleasure for me to meet and learn from so many of our students who have taken on leadership roles through our Calumet and Stong Colleges over the last two years. It is a tribute to our highly committed College Heads Dr. Jennine Rawana and Dr. Mazen Hamadeh, our Student Success Coordinators and their teams, and students themselves that there have been so many tremendous opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills and participate in the everyday life at York. In ways that contribute to their growth and their well-being. The diversity of our student leadership is a testament to the priority that the Colleges have on creating inclusive and welcoming environments for students to engage and contribute to our Faculty of Health and broader communities. We've been so inspired by them their enthusiasm, their energy is palpable, as they work in collaboration with staff, students, and faculty to support their teams through mentorship and other academic programs, create opportunities to connect with each other in community, and engage in meaningful decision making as to the evolving strategic directions of the colleges themselves. These skills and contributions will serve our students well as they move forward in their academic and career paths.

I am looking forward to tonight's event and celebrating our student leaders, our alumni, our fellows, our faculty and all those who have been part of the wonderful opportunities for them to contribute in ways that we will celebrate tonight. On behalf of the Faculty of Health, I'd like to thank all involved with the Colleges and their leadership in the university in supporting students. Their vision and ongoing commitment to putting students at the center is so integral to creating a community of care. We appreciate all who have worked behind the scenes to make tonight's event possible. Congratulations to all.

Good evening everybody. Nice to see you and congratulations to all the peer leaders and welcome to all our guests. Calumet and Stong Colleges is committed to developing responsible student leadership and citizenship inspired one peer leader Simi Sahota to lead the submission process and secure a Catalyst Grant through York University's TD Engagement Center. The purpose of this community-based project was to create financial literacy videos and web and curriculum resources for students attending Emery Collegiate Institute, a local secondary school in the Jane and Finch community. This unique learning opportunity and partnership highlights a collaborative approach to community building, mentorship, and commitment to addressing existing needs in a creative way. The university community collaboration further inspired seven York University students to get involved and lead different aspects of the project such as conducting research, writing scripts, and editing videos. Seven Emery Collegiate Institute students were also involved in the project and led the development and implementation of learning activities to their peers. This project highlights the importance of working in partnership with our local community and reaffirms that community university partnership have the potential to offer students both high school students and post-secondary education students valuable learning and career opportunities and increase our collective problem-solving efforts.

We would like to recognize the following students and teachers who made this project possible. [Jennine Rawana introduces the Faculty & Alumni Leadership Gem Awards. The screen shows the recipient of the Calumet College Amethyst Purpose Award.]

And now we're going to- I'm going to turn it over to Jennine and Mazen to talk about the Faculty and Alumni Leadership GEM Awards.

So established in 2018 by Mazen and myself, the Head of Calumet College and the Head of Stong College. These Gem Awards recognize the outstanding leadership achievements of peer leaders. So peer leaders who have gone above and beyond their typical roles of either President or Coordinator or work-study student. These students embody the values of the Colleges with a vision to embrace the shared responsibility of building a vibrant and bold community and have made significant contributions to Calumet and Stong Colleges. As well these students are often recognized beyond the Colleges for university-wide leadership awards. These awards underscore the commitment of these peer leaders to the Colleges to foster a climate of our vision which is learning, leadership, and citizenship.

Eligible students must meet a minimum criteria. So they're enrolled in undergraduate studies. They have very good academic standing so a minimum GPA of B+. They are affiliated with either Calumet or Stong and they hold a peer leadership position. Is a volunteer or for a new award that we have they can be a staff member, a work-study student, or is affiliated with some capacity with Calumet College or Stong College and they also exhibit our values of being student-centric, collaborative, mentorship, engagement, and bold.

They've also undertaken additional training where they have completed our three-day foundational peer leadership training. So we'd like to extend a special thanks to these Gem Awards for their contributions to the Colleges and I know that they will continue to contribute to the communities that they are part of.

1:00:13.040, 1:01:09.840

So the first award we want to acknowledge is the award of our alumni contributions. So the Calumet and Stong Colleges' Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership. This award recognizes alum and our fellows of Calumet and Stong Colleges who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the Colleges' mandate and our strategic plan. They engage students and our community members. They elevate the Colleges and our student success programs and they very much positively impact our community and our role models for our peer leaders that strengthen or redefine leadership and community engagement. We're just so thankful that these alum members or fellows or faculty members have made the commitment to the Colleges. So for Calumet College the recipient of the 2019/2020 Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership is Clayton Rhodes. I would like to invite Clayton Rhodes to say a few words.

1:01:11.120, 1:01:58.160

[Clayton Rhodes gives their speech.]

Thank you so very very much. First off congratulations to all of tonight's leadership award recipients. You are all very much deserving. Right now actually I'd like to invite everyone to please join me in thanking Dr. Mazen Hamadeh and Dr. Jennine Rawana for everything they do for Calumet and Stong College. So you can go to your reactions or clap. Yes, because they do a tremendous amount of work and I think they really need to be recognized for everything that they do. So thank you very much Jennine and Mazen for what you do. I'm truly thankful for receiving this acknowledgement today. I have so much fun connecting with students through the alumni student events and I look forward to continuing to be a part of the Calumet and Stong communities for many many years to come. So thank you very much. I appreciate it, thank you.

1:02:00.240, 1:02:47.840

[Mazen Hamadeh announces the recipient of the Stong College Amethyst Purpose Award. The screen shows the recipients of Stong College Amethyst Purpose Award.]

Thank you, Clayton. I will announce the our receptions for the Stong College Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership for the 2019-2020 year and it is it goes to the Stong College 50th Anniversary Planning Committee and major contributors. I would like to invite Steve Dranitsaris who was a Chair of the planning committee not only to actually read through a long list of wonderful contributors but also after that to perhaps speak to the contribution of the committee and the accomplishments. Steve would you please go ahead.

1:02:53.760, 1:08:54.000

[Steve Dranitaris gives their speech.]

Thank you very much Mazen. Yeah, it was a lot of work and we pulled in a lot of people and it was it really was quite the undertaking and it was something that I think I chased you down the hall on the way to a class Mazen and to say, you know what? The 50th anniversary of the College this year and we really should have some sort of celebration and it I think within six and a half months we we pulled the whole thing off but we had a wonderful group of people including a number of students and I'll talk about the students in a few minutes because the whole thing would not have been a success without them but you know what bringing people back to a place that shaped who they are who they would be for the rest of their lives where they would meet their life partner and so forth is really an important thing to do and I think you know the 300+ people who came back and the hundreds of others who reconnected because of the effort even though they weren't able to come back it certainly was all worth it.

So let me, first of all, recognize everyone on the committee and contributors, Shahin Alizadeh, was our lead sponsor, Brian Armstrong, Judy (Kolt) Armstrong, Afolabe Bakare, Tom Barlow, four-time Juno award nominee who performed for us at the event for a song. So to speak, Don Butcher, Katia Cestra, Chris Deighan, Sue (Woodend) Deighan, Marcel Desrochers, Ashley Estwick, Linda (Kowalchuk) Galas, Ralph Gauthier, Christine Haratsidis, Gary Jones, Mike Kaczer, Molly Larin, Rob Martellacci, Keith Minkhorst, Sheila Minkhorst, Janet Muir, my partner in crime who kept us all on the straight and narrow for all through all the planning and the execution, Tristian Reid, who is with us tonight, Brian Rodgers, Rick Ruegg, Elizabeth “Betty” Sabiston, Ron Schwass, one of our sponsors, Neil Sinclair, Kim (Peel) Tesolin, Rob Wright, another one of our sponsors. Did I miss these people? No I think I've got them all already.

What was really great about this was the only support we had was from the College in terms of staff, a bit of staff support, work-study students and so forth. Everything else we sort of had to do- we were able to get more money in sponsorship and and generated more revenue than we actually needed so we were able to contribute the proceeds to the August Iraq Bursary at Stong College. So that there will be hopefully an additional bursary awarded each year as a result of our efforts for the event. Let me talk a little bit about the student volunteers.

Thanks to Dr. Hamadeh we were able to recruit about 20 student volunteers who helped with registration helped directing our visitors coming home around the college and so forth and they were absolutely terrific but there's one person, in particular, I wanted to point out a young woman by the name of Dasha Satovska and Dasha, she just jumped in there and she was absolutely wonderful. You know, the two weeks leading up to the event and getting everything organized I don't know how she ever prepared for her exams and everything else because she she was burning the midnight oil to make sure our event came off so it was a really really wonderful show off the student volunteers at the college.

The other great thing about the event was it was able to give everyone who attended a glimpse into what Stong College is today. It was very different when we went through and I was one of the first students in Stong when it was called a G back in 1969. I know I really don't look that old, right? But you know it, the college has changed a lot the university has changed a lot and everyone who came back really thought it was an excellent experience to learn what the college is today and Mazen we can't thank you enough for all you did and your leadership. So thank you very much. Steve, thank you very much. I'm humbled that you acknowledged me but I would like to thank everyone personally and specifically you Steve and as I said at the Dinner Gala I'm looking forward to you sharing the sixtieth. Well let's hope we have gone come out of the pandemic by then healthy. Thank you very much. Move on to presenting the next award, Jennine will present the one for Calumet College.

Thank you Jennine and greetings everyone from Barbados. The rain just held off just enough for me to be able to say a few words. First of all congratulations to all of the fellow award winners. Thank you so much for the recognition but I must say that it's those students and the community that we have that really makes me an influential leader and so thank you to the Colleges and to all those students and staff who support all of my crazy ideas. All the things that we come up with and so I think this is kind of what contributed this award. So thank you very much.

1:09:36.160, 1:10:10.880

Thank you Dr. Herbert. I'd also like to recognize Clayton Rhodes for the second Amethyst Purpose Award for Influential Leadership for 2020/2021. Clayton, you can see a few words. So thank you very much for this. I really really appreciate it. It's very kind. Thank you.

1:10:13.600, 1:12:25.360

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the Opal Award. The screen shows the name of the recipient of Opal Award.]

Thank you, Clayton. Cynthia, would you like to present the Opal Award? or would you like us to present it? How about you go ahead. Okay great! The Calumet and Stong Colleges Opal Student-Staff Leader Award for Exceptional Service. This is the inaugural year for this award. This award recognizes a current Calumet and Stong College work study student-staff employee who has exhibited significant initiative and affected measurable outcomes in their role as a student-staff member. The employee always has a positive attitude is punctual. Accomplishes their work and responsibilities on time. Meeting high standards. Is proactive in addressing program needs and delivers projects with grace and has gone above and beyond the expectations of their staff positions. The employee demonstrates collaboration, collegiality, openness, and sharing ideas and valuing different perspectives. The employee may have also made a significant contribution to a particular student success program or student-led initiative. The employee's accomplishments support and promote the vision, mission, and values of the Colleges, student-centric, collaborative, mentorship, engagement, and bold. And of course our vision is inspiring learning leadership and citizenship. Jennine, I would like to invite you to present the 2020/2021 Calumet College Opal Student Staff Leadership Award. I think Jennine may have stepped away for a moment. So I will go ahead. So the recipient of the 2020/2021 Calumet College Opal Student Staff Leadership Award for Exceptional Service is Simi Sahota. I would like to invite you to speak for a minute or two about your experience.

1:12:27.520, 1:13:28.640

[Simi Sahota gives their speech.]

Thank you so much. I'm sorry if there's so much noise going on in the background. I actually have a birthday party today. I woke up this morning to an email saying that I won the award. So it's such a beautiful present but I hope you guys can hear me well but I just wanted to say thank you to first of all Agata for always seeing something in me. I remember I started off as a PASS leader actually with Monique. Congratulations, Monique, on your award as well but ever since then she always saw something in me and then I became a Leadership Coach after that and I hope I did inspire some students along the way and after that especially with Mazen and Jennine's support. You guys are just so amazing. Thank you so much. I honestly do believe that like we are one big family and I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of Calumet and Stong Colleges and create the Financial Wellness Project and hopefully leave a legacy here at York. So again big thank you and I'll be partying for you guys. I have a whole party going on here. So congratulations to everyone today.

Thank you Simi. We'll move on to the next award the Calumet and Stong College Topaz Bold Leader Award for Leadership Capacity and Community Engagement in First Year at York University. The award recognizes a first year student who has shown significant leadership accomplishment by actively being involved in college life. This student is celebrated for their active engagement and their significant contribution to their cohort. The recipient of the 2019/2020 Stong College Topaz Board Leader Award is Mohamed Elsayed Elghobashy. Mohamed, I would like to invite you  to speak for a minute or two about your experience.

[Mohamed Elsayed Elgobashy gives their speech.]

Absolutely! So I would like to first start by thanking the Colleges for awarding me the Topaz Bold Leader Award. It is a great honor to have had the opportunity to continue working with Dr. Mazen Hamadeh and Dr. Jennine Rawana. You inspire me every single day to work harder, stay focused, shatter my comfort zone and always seek innovation, open-mindedness, and creative thinking. I would also like to extend special thanks to Bayley, Agata, and Abdul who have supported me in ways that are too plentiful to mention in my short speech but that are too valuable to have led to my achievements and growth in the Colleges. I would also like to thank each and every member of KAHSSO. Your hard work, creativity, and perseverance especially during this past year and since the pandemic started showed me that nothing is impossible when you are surrounded by people who care about one another and want to see each other grow. Alright I would like to also thank my Mom, Dad, and Sister who are the reason why I'm here today. Without their support and continuous motivation, none of this would have been possible and lastly. I would like to dedicate my words to my Grandma, who recently passed away at the start of this year from COVID complications, but her memory lives on each with each and every step that I take to better myself or achieve something that I might not have seen myself achieving. Thank you all!

1:15:42.160, 1:16:23.840

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the Stong College Topaz Bold Leader Award.]

Thank you Mohamed. We share your sadness but also we celebrate your achievements. The

recipient of the 2020/2021 Stong College Topaz Bold Leader Award for Leadership Capacity and Community Engagement in First Year at York University. Is Alexa Fevlo. I'm not sure if Alexa is here. Is Alexa here? So Alexa is not here. So, we can move forward with the next award. Is Jennine back? Yes. Jennine would you like to present the next award please? Sure!

1:16:23.840, 1:17:48.560

[Jennine Rawana introduces the Sapphire Dream Team Award. The screen shows the recipients of the award.]

The Calumet and Stong Colleges' Sapphire Dream Team Award for Visionary Leadership and Transformative Community Engagement. There's no I in teamwork. Greater than the

sum of its individual talents, this team or student organization has demonstrated collaboration,

collegiality, openness, and sharing ideas, and valuing different perspectives. The

team has accomplished a multi-year project or implemented a strategy over more than one year that meets the Colleges' vision with a significant contribution to the community. I'll pass it over to Mazen who will read the one for Stong.

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the recipients of Stong College Sapphire Dream Team Award.]

The recipient of the 2019/2020 Stong College Sapphire Dream Team Award for Visionary Leadership and Transformative Community Engagement is actually NSTAMP. NSTAMP submitted an application showing their accomplishments for two years since their establishment by Angelina Batac and her team. I will I would like to ask Angelina to- Angelina, would you care to read the list of names who made this possible?

1:17:51.200, 1:19:41.040

[Angelina Batac reads out the names.]

Sure of course! All right so, Baljeet Kaur Bhella, Kimberly Bodick, Gabriel Brome, Myja Hogendoorn, Kiranpreet Kaur, Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr., Jenny Nguyen, Najeem Popal, Aleena Rahat, Trixia Kay Santos, Rachael Sayeau, Catherine Simmonds, Elizabeth Sombilon, Ivanpreet Virk, and Vonny Wong. Thank you.

[Mazen Hamadeh] Would you like to say a word or two about your experience with NSTAMP?

[Angelina Batac] Yes. It was a great opportunity and I'm truly grateful to have had the position and had the opportunity to make those connections with everyone and I'd just like to thank all the executives, peer mentors, peer tutors, lab facilitators, and the ambassadors from the Nursing Student Tutoring Ambassadorship and Mentorship Programs for all their hard work and contributions. For really making this club a success and just transforming NSTAMP into its own official student governing body for the first time in Fall 2019. There were a lot of challenges but together we worked. We worked together to overcome these challenges and make a difference and just seeing all the impact that we've made on other students is so amazing and I actually work in the hospital and we have a lot of Nursing students and their consolidation from Second Entry Nursing students and they've either been part of the team or they know about the club and are using the services. So it's just been a great opportunity and I'm so glad to see the club continuing to thrive and make an impact.

[Mazen Hamadeh] Thank you Angelina and Jennine will present the next award.

1:19:42.000, 1:21:23.842

[Jennine Rawana introduces the Calumet College Sapphire Dream Team Award. The screen shows the names of the recipient.]

So the 2020/2021 Calumet College Sapphire Dream Team Award for Visionary Leadership and Transformative Community Engagement is awarded to the Undergraduate Psychology Student Association for the contributions over the last four or five years. I'd like to welcome Karen Rofaeel and Fara Seddigh to join us to say a few words. You can also read out the names on the slide please.

[Karen Rofaeel] Thank you Jennine. Hi again everyone. My name is Karen.

[Fara Seddigh] and I'm Fara

[Karen Rofaeel] and we were your Co-Presidents of UPSA in the 2020/2021 term

[Fara Seddigh] and we are really honored to accept this award on behalf of our team at UPSA.

[Karen Rofaeel] We obviously wouldn't be a dream team without all our dedicated and hard-working executive members and volunteers who are really responsible for all of us success. So a huge thank you to all our past and current members.

[Fara Seddigh] We'd also like to thank the Colleges with a special shout out to our support team at Calumet for always having UPSA's back and to all staff and faculty for helping us reach students. We dedicate this recognition to you. Karen would you like to read the names?

1:21:28.229, 1:22:18.320

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the Emerald Initiative Award. The screen shows the names of the recipients of the award.]

Thank you Karen and Fara. I'll pass it over to Mazen who will introduce the Emerald Initiative Award. Thank you Jennine. The Calumet and Stong Colleges' Emerald Initiative Award for Student Contribution and Engagement is given to a student who continues to go beyond the call of duty always with a positive attitude. The student shows up regularly, brings their ideas forward, is proactive in addressing student program needs, and delivers projects with grace. The recipient of the 2019/2020 Stong College Emerald Initiative Awards for Student Contribution and Engagement are Claudia Guillen Dominguez and Nida Hashmi. I know Nida is not with us unfortunately but Claudia, would you like to say a few words?

1:22:21.120, 1:23:13.280

[Claudia Guillen Dominguez gives their speech.]

Hi guys. Thank you so much. Excuse my uniform. I'm so so happy. I'm so glad to see you all there together. I am so grateful for you guys and I'm so grateful for Mazen and Jennine. They've made me feel like as I was part of the team. They actually helped me a lot to basically engage all the Nursing students especially Second Entry but if we were able to actually redirect them to whatever they need, let's say they need some help with exams or tests, we'll direct them to NSTAMP and we basically create a community because being in a Nursing program is very hard but it's hard if you don't have friends around you. So we just create community and it was awesome. Thank you Mazen. Thank you Jennine. Thank you Abdul. Thank you Bayley and thank you for all those beautiful granola bars. Thank you so much.

1:23:13.280, 1:24:57.840

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the recipient for Emerald Initiative Award. The screen shows the names of the recipients.]

Thank you, Claudia. The recipients of the 2020/2021 Stong College Emerald Initiative Award for Student Contribution and Engagement are Parmin Rahimpoor-Marnani and Dorsa Shakeri. Parmin and Dorsa, would you like to say a few words please?

[Parmin Rahimpoor-Marnani gives their speech.]

Dorsa, if it's okay I can go first? So first of all again thank you so so much for this award. Obviously you know this  is a clear identification of, you know, that the fact that I'm on the right track in terms of doing what I'm supposed to be doing and to kind of like back it up in terms of the award I specifically remember that, you know, I recently had started my role as a coursework coordinator and I came across a quote that I had to find for one of the slides that we were making saying if your actions and if your actions inspire others to dream more learn more and do more and become more you are a leader by John Quincy Adams who was a previous US President as a side note, but you know, that was the moment that really hit me. That you know, you are a peer leader. You're you know, working for serving the community as you always visioned and along the way. I really want to thank Bayley Tepperman, Agata Stypka, and you, Mazen and Jennine for continuing to believe in us. For continuing to inspire us to continue doing better and I also want to thank all my fellow students in KAHSSO specifically for continuing to again inspire me to be stronger and better than before and thank you so much for this award. It just shows that I'm on the right track and I should keep on going. Thank you all.

1:25:04.000, 1:25:56.720

[Dorsa Shakeri gives their speech.]

Thank you guys. I just want to say I feel very honored to be selected as one of the recipients of this award. I know we have a lot of great peer leaders working with us and it's really an amazing thing that we have these awards to appreciate all of them and I want to say even though this past year was difficult, everything was remote. Through my involvement I really felt part of the community when I was working with the colleges and I'm really grateful for all the opportunities that I was given because I really grew as a person and as a peer leader looking back when I started my first year, little roles here and there in the Colleges and I'm amazed how long I've come and how much students support each other and I look forward to the staff and all the other peer leaders working together in the future to continue to bring the Colleges' mission and vision to life.

1:26:00.800, 1:26:47.760

[Jennine Rawana introduces the Ruby Impact Award. The screen shows the names of the recipients.]

Thank you Dorsa. Moving on to our next awards. The Calumet and Stong Colleges' Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building. So this award celebrates students for their collaborative spirit that has ensured that whatever they do makes a positive difference in the lives of their fellow peers or their local community. These students achieved significant milestones over more than a year and have helped the colleges achieve their vision.

The recipients of the 2019/2020 Calumet College Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building are Elizabeth German and Parisa Sharif-Esfahani. Unfortunately they're not here with us tonight but we celebrate their contributions together. I pass it to Mazen for the Stong College Ruby Impact Awards.

1:26:48.480, 1:27:15.520

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the Stong College Ruby Impact Award.]

Thank you. The recipients of the 2019/2020 Stong College Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building are Aly Fawzy, Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr., and Amin Hatamnejad. Could we have Rodolfo and Amin say a couple of words? I'm not sure if Aly is with us. If he is then he can also say a couple of words. Please go ahead.

1:27:17.040, 1:30:22.880

[Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr. gives their speech.]

Okay I'll go ahead. Good evening everyone. First let me introduce myself. My name is Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr. and I am an alumnus of York University. I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing for International Educated Nurses Program class of October 2020. Im extremely honored to be receiving such an important award, the Stong College Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building. I am earnestly grateful for the recognition I have received for my contribution to the Stong College and York University students because I am very sure that every other nominee for this award was incapable if not more of winning this award. Although we have faced several challenges on our way to come up with this event due to the pandemic crisis but each one of us has only strengthened to make the person that we are today, a thorough professional who knows exactly what we want. Someone who sets eyes on a goal and does not lose sight of it unless it is achieved. Winning this award would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from my senior and my colleagues for whom I have deepest respect and from whom I have derived the strength to challenge myself and perform better each day namely the former President of NSAY. When I first started that NSAY organization which is Miss Camilla Randall and the Vice

President of NSAY Miss Katie Shum and to former President of NSTAMP Miss Angelina Batac

and the Vice President of NSTAMP Miss Myja Hogendoorn and also executive and members of NSTAMP. I sincerely thank also to the Head of Stong College Mr. Mazen Hamadeh and the Head of Calumet College, Jennine Rawana, for helping me reach a stage where I can probably hold up with this award as a mark of my achievement. I also promise to only get better at my career now as a nurse so that you can see more me as such a worth. Thank you.

You know, when I started at York University I first received my first award as a peer leader certificate and I was sitting there and listening to the different awards of these Gem awards and I was at that time, I was thinking of myself. I envisioned myself that someday I'll be one of those recipients of those awards and speaking to thank everyone for this award but now I am here. So when you sometimes when you set your eyes on something, sometimes it becomes into reality but thank you again to all the staff of the Stong and Calumet College.

On a closing note all I want to tell each of one of you present here today is that you should never give up never give up even if you are convinced that it's all over, it's not over unless you want it to be. Again I'm very pleased to have received this award. I also dedicate this award to all my family in the Philippines which I haven't seen for almost 10 years now because of circumstances but I really want to see them hopefully next year. Thank you for your for your choice and for your trust in me. Thank you very much again and have a good evening everyone.

1:30:27.280, 1:31:58.400

[Amin Hatamnejad gives their speech.]

Amin, would you like to go ahead? Yeah absolutely. So I think a lot of my colleagues at this point have already said what I wanted to say, you know, my journey through York started with the Calumet and Stong Colleges and you know, my development who I am today and hopefully who I will be three years from now. You know, has all shaped through my undergraduate years like Calumet and Stong Colleges I had the opportunity and truly the privilege to meet a lot of great staff who I would take me five ten minutes to miss all of them but a huge thank you to all of them Cody, Abdul, Bayley, Agata, Mazen, and Jennine.

My very first day at YOD and I, you know, I was just taken in by how much work it really takes for the Colleges and for the student success programs. Additionally to that, you know, a huge thank you to everyone at KAHSSO through my years from 2018 till now I had the opportunity to serve on the executive.

I was the elected President and really got the chance to learn from my colleagues and be able to implement some visions with them. So a huge thank you to them and just on a closing note, I just want to thank my parents, my friends, and my family and for supporting me through my journey and that hopefully I will, you know, as I said before in many of my trainings my journey hasn't ended with York yet and I will be back at some capacity but yeah for now a huge thank you to everyone and I will see you, folks, at some point in the near future. Thanks Mazen, thanks Jennine, thanks everyone.

1:32:00.080, 1:32:14.400

[Jennine Rawana introduces the Calumet College Ruby Impact Award.]

Thank you Amin. And now, the recipient of the 2020/2021 Calumet College Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building is Karen Rofaeel.  So I invite Karen to say a few words.

1:32:14.400, 1:33:10.160

[Karen Rofaeel gives their speech.]

Thank you so much, Jennine. First, I'd like to say congratulations to all of my fellow award winners today. My airpods just fell out, sorry. I'd also like to express my gratitude to the Colleges for providing me with all the opportunities to be engaged and serve this amazing community. Thank you to all the staff and faculty; Mazen, Jennine, Cynthia, Agata, Bailey, Abdul, Peter, everyone else. You really provided me with constant support and mentorship and really strengthened my leadership skills.

And finally, I really need to shout out my UPSA family as well, for believing in my ideas and in my leadership for the past two years. Being involved in the colleges has really given me so many great memories and skills, and I'm gonna carry these with me wherever life takes me. I'm especially looking forward to being back in the community as an alumni. So, thank you again for the award.

1:33:21.520, 1:33:35.840

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the recipient for Stong College Ruby Impact Award.]

The recipient of the 2020/2021 Stong College Ruby Impact Award for Student Leadership and Community Building is Mohamed Elsayed. Mohamed, would you like to say something again?

1:33:37.040, 1:34:45.840

[Mohamed Elsayed Elgobashy gives their speech.]

So, I would like to restate my thanks to all the college staff, volunteers, peer leaders; just

restate my thanks to Mazen and Jennine for all of their support again. I remember during York Orientation Day, sort of walking around quite stressed out... all these people, you know, going to university it's quite different from high school. In high school, you're walking around, you can sort of... you know everyone in a couple of days. University it's like a whole lot of people and you don't know that many people.  But then you get to know people gradually, and you get to interact, and you get to look at the many many opportunities that are available. So I would like to you know say that, without the support of each and every person in KAHSSO, Bailey, Agata, Abdul, Mazen and Jennine and all the college staff and peer leaders, this would not be possible. The support of my family, the support of anyone who sort of helped me throughout this journey. Again, thank you everyone and I really appreciate the award- both awards, actually, from Stong College. Thank you, everyone. Thank you.

1:34:52.560, 1:35:25.760

[Jennine Rawana introduces the Diamond Legacy Award.]

Okay, the Calumet and Stong College's Diamond Legacy Award for Significant Community Contribution, Enduring Change, and Inspiring Vision. So, this award recognizes a graduating student who has left an enduring legacy in their college, with respect to their leadership accomplishments and lasting contributions, the vision of the college. The student has left an indelible impact empowering others, and has made a significant difference in the community that will continue to thrive and succeed despite their actions as they go forward into the next stage of their career.

1:35:27.040, 1:35:52.800

[Mazen Hamadeh introduces the recipient of Stong College Diamond Legacy Award.]

I will pass it to Mazen who will say the Stong College Diamond Legacy Award. Thank you, Jennine. The recipient of the 2019/2020 Stong College Diamond Legacy Award for Significant Community Contribution, Enduring Change, and Inspiring Vision is Angelina Batac. Angelina, would you like to say a word, please?

1:35:47.120, 1:37:13.360

[Angelina Batac gives their speech.]

Alright, I just wanted to start off by saying thank you so much for choosing me as one of the recipients for these awards, and recognizing all my efforts. It just means a lot to me, and I'm truly grateful since there's so many amazing students who've made a large contribution to York University. I just wanted to thank Agata, Mazen, Bailey, Jennine, Abdul and Peter and everyone from the College of Calumet and Stong College for all the support over the past two years. I'm just truly grateful for your encouragement, knowledge and moral support. You've really helped me through various projects by providing me your guidance. Thank you to all the NSTAMP and peer leaders at Calumet and Stong Colleges. Having the opportunity to have different roles at Calumet and Stong Colleges really helped me transform to the nurse I want to be today, and I'm just so happy that NSTAMP has continued to create more leadership opportunities to help future nurses develop their professional development prior to coming into the field. This award will just remind me of all the amazing memories I created at York University.  So, thank you everyone at Calumet and Stong Colleges. Thank you, Angelina.

1:37:07.920, 1:37:20.160

[Jennine Rawana introduces the recipient of Calumet College Diamond Legacy Award.]

And now, for our very last award for the evening, the recipient of the 2020/2021 Calumet College Diamond Legacy Award for Significant Community Contribution, Enduring Change, and Inspiring Vision is Fara Seddigh. Fara, I'd like to invite you to say a few words.

1:37:27.040, 1:38:29.840

[Fara Seddigh gives their speech.]

Thank you so much, Jennine. Well, first of all, I want to say what Rodolfo said is true; in 2019, I attended my first award ceremony as a peer tutor, and I thought to myself like "Oh, will I ever get one of those cool gem awards?" And today, that became true! So, thank you so much to everyone, thank you to the Colleges for this recognition. I'd also like to say that I obviously didn't achieve this award independently, but rather because of the support of the people in my life. My exceptional team at UPSA who worked so hard to enable the club and myself to leave an impact on students lives; the college heads, staff, and faculty, who are always there for us every step of the way; and of course, my lovely family, especially my mom, who has spent her entire life making sure that I get to have opportunities like this one. Being involved in York and the Colleges has positively affected me in every aspect, and I'm really beyond grateful to have been able to reciprocate it in some way. Thank you so much.

[Jennine Rawana] Thank you, everybody. So that wraps up the end of our closing ceremony and we'll start with Mazen to say a few closing words.

[Mazen Hamadeh] Thank you, Jennine. So as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. This quote is by Marianne Williamson, who is an author, a spiritual leader, and a political activist. I, for one, think all of you are lights that shine to show the way for future generations. They will follow in your footsteps, and they will definitely be standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you for your contributions, and I hope your future contributions in society and to York University, to Faculty of Health, and to Calumet and Stong Colleges eclipse your past contributions.

[Jennine Rawana] I'd also like to say, I know it's been a challenging year to pivot to the pandemic, and despite the challenges, we've had amazing peer leaders who have stepped up both during the 2019 and 2020 academic years. So, we cannot thank you enough for your continued contributions to Colleges. To those who are graduating, or perhaps moving on to new positions, I hope that you stay; we are still your community, we're here to serve you and to support you as you move forward to the next stages of your degrees. And I also want to thank everybody for taking the time this evening during the summer to spend a few hours with us, celebrating our successes as well.

I believe there's one more slide that thanks our staff, so we also want to thank our Calumet and Stong Colleges' staff as well as Kaye and Waziha and Cynthia who have contributed to creating a wonderful award tonight. There we go. Rob Bishop and Annalissa Crisostomo, Cynthia Goodfellow; Cynthia, our hats off to you for pulling this off together. I know it's been challenging at times, but here we are. Abdul Mohammed, Agata Stypka, and Bailey Tepperman.

We also want to thank our peer leaders who emceed and contributed to reading the names. We're on the next slide, but also want to thank Paul McDonald who is our Dean of the Faculty of Health for continuing to contribute and support Calumet and Stong Colleges and all that we do. Dr. Judy MacDonnell, our Associate Dean for Students, thank you very much for all your contributions and your role as Associate Dean to supporting both Mazen and myself and our staff and the students and the Faculty of Health Student Success Council, which is a group of undergrad program directors, faculty advisors, student club presidents, and executive members and our college staff, who make decisions around the colleges. Kaye and Waziha, thank you very much for preparation of all the materials, right to the nth hour to create lovely slides and our program brochures and all that you do to support the communications of the Colleges.

[Mazen Hamadeh] For those who would like to stay behind for an informal chat, please stay, we will turn the recording off, but thank you very much for coming.

[Jennine Rawana] I do think there's one request for one photo.

[Cynthia Goodfellow] That's correct, yes. So I just wanted to thank everyone, and I just wanted to let everyone know we do have programs for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. We will circulate those later, we just want to make a few little adjustments to them make sure they're perfect for you. As well, if you're interested, we will make the slides available to you if you would like those as well. We'd like to end the evening with a group photo, so if you would like to be part of the photo, please do turn your camera on; if not, we hope you've enjoyed your time together and we look forward to seeing you again soon, and hopefully in person.

[End of recording.]
