HH Orientation Conference – Thursday, August 29, 2024

The HH Orientation Conference is our flagship Orientation event. All students entering the Faculty of Health in 2024 are welcome to attend the Conference. Connect with students, peer leaders, Peer Mentors, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members for workshops and activities for first-year students.

CONFEFERENCE CHECK IN/REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

Registration opens at 12:15pm. Please make sure you have “purchased” your free ticket on Eventbrite (see link above).

Registration Locations are by program:

  • Global Health (SGH) – Curtis Lecture Hall B (CLH B)
  • Health Studies/School of Health Policy & Management (SHPM) – Curtis Lecture Hall A (CLH A)
  • Kinesiology & Health Science (KINE) – Accolade West Building 109 OR 206 (ACW 109 or 206)
  • Nursing (NURS) – Vari Hall C (VH C)
  • Psychology (PSYC) – Curtis Lecture Hall D OR I (CLH D or I)

Peer Mentoring | Welcome from your Peer Mentor

Welcome to our Peer Mentor program! You will be matched with an upper year student who will support you throughout your first year at York University. They will answer any of your questions, provide essential tips for success, and help you achieve your academic and extracurricular goals. You will receive a Welcome Email from your Peer Mentor within the next few weeks! Make sure to check your spam/junk mail folder. If you don’t receive an email from your Peer Mentor, by August 2nd, 2024, please contact Bayley Femia, Student Success Coordinator, at bayleyt@yorku.ca.

York 201: Faculty of Health (HH) Mini Lecture (In-Person)

Date: Thursday, July 25, 2024

Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Experience what a university lecture is like with York 201. Practice your note-taking skills during a mini-lecture by Dr. Lesley Zannella, a Psychology professor in the Faculty of Health. York 201 is an interactive presentation with practical exercises and collaborative discussions that will help you transition to university with ease.

Faculty of Health (HH) Orientation Speed Friending (Virtual)

Monday, July 29, 2024

Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Join Peer Leaders and new students for our virtual Speed Friending event! Through games and activities, you will meet other new students and start to build community. Please note: Turning on your camera is not mandatory, but it will help you to make new friends and connections, so we encourage cameras on.

Orientation Conversation Café for New Students (In-Person)

Date 1: Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Date 2: Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Join us to meet Peer Mentors, peer leaders, faculty, and staff to learn tips to be successful and about helpful resources including student success programs and leadership opportunities. Plus, bring your timetable and Peer Leaders will help you find your classrooms! These are drop-in events, so we are happy to have you join us at any time you can during the event. Free beverages and snacks.

Emerging Leadership Training (In-Person)

Date 1: Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 2:00pm – 6:30pm

Date 2: Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 12:00pm – 4:30pm

Date 3: Friday, August 9, 2024 from 11:00am – 3:30pm

Location: Stong College 201

Register and attend this free leadership training opportunity at York University. If you are thinking about getting involved at York and/or want to build on your leadership skills, then this training is for you.  We want to introduce you to the culture of peer leadership at Calumet and Stong Colleges and at York University.  We have developed a highly interactive program where you will have an opportunity to meet upper year students and explore topics with your peers in small and large groups. Students attending this training will complete three modules.
