MA Candidate, Faculty of Education, York University
Chepchumba Maiyo is a graduate student in the Masters of Education in Language, Culture and
Teaching at York University -Canada. Professionally trained as a primary school teacher, she
has taught for ten years in Dadaab Primary School as a remedial teacher for girls from both local
and refugee communities. She applied for the BHER scholarship and was successful. She studied
and graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor's degree of Education in Arts, English
and literature. She is currently teaching in Junior Secondary school in Garissa (Kenya). Alongside
teaching, she is a mentor, community mobilizer as well as counsellor. Her research interests
include the digital divide,gender disparities in education,impacts of displacement on education
and teaching methods using locally available materials.
