HaEun Kim is a PhD student in Applied Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at York University. Her research interests include language and literacy education, refugee education, language politics, critical pedagogy, and understanding barriers that prevent access to learning in urban contexts such as Toronto as well as settings considered to be ‘education in emergencies’. While professionally trained as a secondary school teacher, she has over six years of practical experience in project management, teaching, and community outreach gained whilst working and researching for the Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (BHER) Project in Dadaab, Kenya as well as running preventative programs as an outreach worker for youth and families living in high-priority communities in Toronto, Canada.
