Maryam Lashkari is a PhD student in the geography department at York University. Her areas of research include feminist geopolitics, transnational migration, and urban geography. The goal of her doctoral research is to understand how Iranian feminist activist migrants resist, negotiate and counter geopolitical structures of patriarchal violence and displacement. Using semi-structured interviews with activists across Europe and Canada, media analysis and (visual) ethnography, she engages with feminist and urban geopolitical scholarship to examine counter-geopolitical knowledges, practices, and spaces in Iranian diasporas.
