Rabbi Gunther Plaut Book Prize for Human Rights and Refuge Studies

Offered: Annually
Award Type: Award
No. of Awards: Minimum of 1 per year
Value: $250.00
Application Deadline: May 15, 2025

This prize is awarded annually to a student enrolled in either the CRS Undergraduate Certificate program or the CRS Graduate Diploma program, for the best essay on International Human Rights or on Refugees Studies. The Prize is to encourage students to pursue their interests in international human rights and refugee issues.

The Book Prize is rotated annually to a student in the Undergraduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma CRS programs. One year the competition will be open to undergraduates, and the following year it would be open to graduate students. The award will be granted to undergraduate students on even years and to graduate students on odd years. If a suitable candidate is not found in a given year, a student from the other program (grad or undergrad) for that year may be considered, however this will not impact the rotation in future years. The Best Essay on International Human Rights or Refugees will be one that was submitted as a course requirement and written in the same year the course is offered. Information concerning the book prize will be communicated to eligible students by the Centre and faculty. The Selection Committee will consist of CRS faculty members. A student may not receive the book prize more than once.
