CVR-VISTA Masters Entrance Award
The Vision: Science to Applications (VISTA Entrance) Award is an entrance scholarship designed to support high-calibre scholars conducting research aligned with the VISTA program, under the supervision of a CVR-VISTA core member. The VISTA program fosters the combination of fundamental and applied vision research, integrating biological and computational perspectives with translational potential for health, industry, or other applications. These Masters scholarships are supported by The Vision: Science to Applications program.

Ian P. Howard Family Foundation Graduate Scholarship
The Ian P. Howard Family Foundation Graduate Scholarship will be awarded annually to an entering full-time Master’s level graduate student who is studying vision or performing research in a vision-related field of study and is supervised by a member of the Centre for Vision Research.
This award was established by the Ian P. Howard Family Foundation by Toni Howard and her three children, Ruth, Neil, and Martin, to honour their late father, Dr. Ian P. Howard (1927-2013). Dr. Howard was an influential vision scientist, founder of the Centre for Vision Research, distinguished research professor, professor in York University’s Department of Psychology, a wonderful mentor, and an exceptional human being.

Kevin Mackenzie Entrance Doctoral Fellowship
The Kevin MacKenzie Entrance Doctoral Fellowship is awarded to an incoming PhD student to be supervised by a CVR member; the student must also become a CVR affiliate. The fellowship was named for Dr. Kevin MacKenzie (1975-2021) who was a York PhD graduate. Kevin was an active and valued member of the York community, earning his PhD studying stereoscopic vision. He went on to a distinguished career in academic and industrial research including leading the Applied Perception Sciences team at Meta Reality Labs, focusing on vision research involving augmented reality and virtual reality. The primary criterion for the fellowship will be demonstrated academic excellence with consideration to ensuring the fellowship distribution reflects the diversity of the student body including disciplinary diversity.

Kevin Mackenzie Continuing Doctoral Fellowship
The Kevin MacKenzie Continuing Doctoral Fellowship is awarded to a PhD student who is currently in their 2nd or 3rd year of studies and is supervised by a CVR member. The student must also be an affiliate of the CVR. The fellowship was named for Dr. Kevin MacKenzie (1975-2021) who was a York PhD graduate. Kevin was an active and valued member of the York community, earning his PhD studying stereoscopic vision. He went on to a distinguished career in academic and industrial research including leading the Applied Perception Sciences team at Meta Reality Labs, focusing on vision research involving augmented reality and virtual reality. Honouring Kevin’s enthusiastic contributions to the York vision community, the principle criterion for the fellowship will be the applicant’s demonstrated contributions to the academic and social life of students in the centre. The award committee will also monitor the pattern of awards to ensure that the fellowship meets the centre’s expectation of equity, diversity and inclusiveness.
