Dahdaleh Institute member Michael DeSanti is presenting on the innovative Safe Water Optimization Tool (SWOT) at the 2022 Emergency Environmental Health Forum. He will discuss SWOT’s risk-based approach to generating chlorination guidance to ensure safe water in humanitarian settings.
Developed and led by Dahdaleh Institute research fellow Dr. Syed Imran Ali, the SWOT uses machine learning and numerical modelling to generate site-specific, evidence-based chlorination targets to ensure safe water for the entire duration of household storage and use at any field site. In his presentation, Michael will discuss the importance of taking a risk-based approach to generating chlorination guidance and outline how the team is developing the approach with web-based modelling tools.
The 2022 Emergency Environmental Health Forum—held both virtually and in person in Budapest, Hungary—is the premier global forum for environmental health research in humanitarian emergencies. The theme of this year's conference is "Climate change mitigation and adaptation in humanitarian WASH programmes."
The Forum will be held on May 18-19 at the UNICEF GSSC office in Budapest, Hungary, and online via zoom. Read more about the event.
