Graduate Student Scholar, Global Health and Humanitarianism
Graduate Student Scholar
Alexis Zoe Porter has been engaged in humanitarian and international affairs since 2001, serving with the United Nations, donor governments including Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) UK, and respected international non-governmental organizations. She holds a BA (Hons.) in anthropology and women’s studies from Concordia University (2001, Valedictorian), and MA degrees from the SIT Graduate Institute (2007) and, most recently, the Fletcher School for Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (2019). Her doctoral research at York, under Othon Alexandrakis, Maggie MacDonald, and Annie Bunting, focuses on unpacking some of the real-time challenges around implementation of “gender equality” and “women’s empowerment” policy and programmatic commitments in aid. Why do we not do what we are committed to do? And why does the aid industry fail to ensure equity and parity while officially championing these issues?
