The School of Global Health in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Global Health Knowledge Mobilization and Implementation Science. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence July 1, 2024.
The School of Global Health consists of a highly committed interdisciplinary group of scholars and educators with a diverse focus across healthcare, public health, social determinants of health, and planetary health. It offers the first dedicated undergraduate global health degree program in Canada and will be soon launching a highly distinctive interdisciplinary PhD program in global health. Through cross-disciplinary programming, innovative course design, diverse experiential learning, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that make an impact on the world.
Research specialization is open to any area of knowledge mobilization or implementation science within global health. We are interested in scholars who have a coherent and well-articulated program of research around the production and use of research results in ways that benefit users and creates positive impacts in global health. We are particularly interested in scholarship that bridges the gaps between knowledge and action that can improve population health outcomes, including through uptake of research and evidence-informed implementation of global health policy and practice. It would also be an asset to have a record of building collaborations and partnerships within and across academic and health system communities in knowledge mobilization and/or implementation research.
The successful candidate would be expected to teach existing courses in global health and create a new course in the areas of global health knowledge mobilization or implementation science. They would also help to lead the development of a Specialized Honours stream focusing on themes related to knowledge mobilization, implementation science, health communication, advocacy, and digital health.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Degree: PhD or PhD equivalent (e.g., MD) from the health sciences, social sciences, or humanities and a record of academic experience in a global health-related field is required.
Scholarship:
- A coherent and well-articulated program of research and/or professional practice and specialization in knowledge mobilization or implementation science.
- A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research.
- A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., publications in key journals, major presentations, and/or awards and accolades.
Teaching:
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and peer evaluations), as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary teaching.
- Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
Additional:
- Experience in the production and use of implementation research in global health, and knowledge mobilization activities related to best practices in global health knowledge synthesis, dissemination, transfer, exchange, co-creation by researchers and knowledge users, and application to classroom or training settings would be an asset.
- Familiarity with a range of pedagogical, philosophical, and disciplinary lenses relevant to global health and demonstrated teaching experience in, at least, one of the following: knowledge mobilization, implementation science, population health, health promotion, social determinants of health, and/or global governance of health.
