Job description

Under the supervision of Professor Steven Hoffman and Dr. Arne Rückert, the AMR Policy Accelerator Research Dissemination and Design Research Assistant 2 (for up to 10 hours per week) will work closely with the Communications and Research teams to support knowledge mobilization planning and execution.

The AMR Policy Accelerator (AMRPA) is an initiative of the Global Strategy Lab, tasked with accelerating global action against AMR through research and policy innovation. We undertake three programs of work:

  1. Providing Advisory Services to governments, international organizations, and civil society in response to request for evidence on AMR policy, implementation and evaluation;
  2. Work with leading experts in the field to generate actionable Policy Research; and
  3. Support policy development and research around the world through a suite of Capacity Building programs,
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
  • Searching for academic literature, and extracting and synthesizing information to support manuscript development
  • Updating structuring and annotated bibliographic reviews of existing literature
  • Supporting statistical analyses using quasi-experimental designs (i.e., time series analyses)
  • Managing sources using Zotero reference management software
  • Supporting the presentation of findings to internal and external audiences

Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:

  • Analytical and critical thinking;
  • Statutory analysis;
  • Literature review and synthesis;
  • Preparing presentations and written outputs of research;
  • Editing and formatting manuscript drafts;
  • Professional communication and mentorship as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:

  • Methodological training on data analysis
  • Subject matter training on global health
  • Regular status meetings with your supervising full-time faculty

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student at York University. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged.
  • Demonstrated interest in public health, public policy, public administration, and/or international relations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social science concepts, theories, and research methods.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews
  • Demonstrated analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (word processing, email, spreadsheets, forms, slides, and Office 365 Apps).
  • Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff.
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
