What’s the Difference between ‘Bounce Rates’ & ‘Exits’

You may see reports that mention ‘Bounce Rate’ and ‘Exits’. These metrics are measuring two different actions by your visitors:

  • Bounce Rate: measures how many visitors came to a page and then left the site without having visited another page. To be measured as a ‘Bounce’ a visitor must have only visited a single page on the yorku.ca domain.
  • Exit: measures if the page in question was the last page in a visit before leaving the site. To be measured as an ‘Exit’, a visitor must visit more than one page.

Both of the these metrics measure people leaving the site but each measures a very different circumstance.
