eClass is now on the Cloud

On December 29, 2021, University Information Technology (UIT) successfully moved eClass to the cloud. It is now fully managed on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Canada. This move has resulted in a more robust platform that significantly reduces outages. Since the move, eClass has been stable and performing as anticipated.


FAQs

Yes. eClass will be unavailable on Wednesday, December 29, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. 

Yes. Your eClass experience will be identical. No updates, upgrades or add-ons are being done to the application during the move to the cloud. We are simply moving the infrastructure from York University data centers to AWS Canada.

Yes. eClass will be hosted in Montreal’s AWS Eastern Canadian Data Center. The data remains York University’s property and instructors will continue to own the intellectual property of the teaching materials they create.

No. All existing eClass data, including files, will be moved from York on-premise servers to cloud-based servers. There will be no data loss. All of your classes and eClass functionality will be identical.

No. eClass will remain exactly as it is until we move it to the cloud on December 29th, 2021.
