IN THE MEDIA: NHL players press pause on playoffs but there is still a lot of ground to cover on equality

Stephen Quinn speaks with Carl James, Professor and Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community and Diaspora at York University’s Faculty of Education, and Hockey Night in Canada analyst Harpreet Pandher on CBC’s The Early Edition about the action taken by hockey players and whether or not this can really recharge the conversation around ending racism.

Carl James hopes that the action taken by hockey players will have an impact by having people pay attention. “Sports is one of those institutions, like the justice system and like all others, that we need to pay attention to in how it also deals with race and addresses issues of racism,” says James.
