A career advisor is someone who assists students in exploring and possibly choosing a career path that will be suitable for them. They get to know a student’s existing skills, abilities and knowledge and use that information to help students come up with careers that might be a good fit. Career advisors meet with students and guide them through the process of choosing a future career path, as well as conduct tests to determine the students current skills, abilities and interests. A career advisor would also help students network and teach them how to enter the workforce and present themselves professionally. A career advisor’s job isn’t to tell students what career to do; it’s to guide them to discovering career paths for themselves. Another aspect of this career is to develop materials and tools that students can use, even if they don’t meet with the career advisor. These materials would also help guide students towards suitable career paths without having to set up a meeting with an advisor.
