Associate Professor Sue Winton delivered a talk on privatization and public education at the Faculty’s Public Lecture event on November 8, 2022 –  Winton, a critical policy scholar and and co-director of the World Educational Research Association’s International Research Network on Families, Educators, and Communities as Educational Advocates, discussed how policies, such as fundraising, fees and specialized schools and programs among others, enable some kids to accumulate more advantages from public education than other children. Get to know our faculty profile series – This month’s ‘Get to know our faculty’ profile series features assistant professor Gabby Moser whose current field of research is visual citizenship, and especially the role photography plays—both in artworks and through everyday objects, such as family snapshots—in shaping who can be seen and recognized as a citizen. The Conversation: Canada identifies international students as ‘ideal immigrants’ but supports are lacking – Isaac Garcia-Sitton, a Ph.D. student in the Graduate Program in Education, writes about the federal government identifying international students as a key source of talent for the growth and sustenance of the Canadian economy, and to address the skilled labour shortages.   • You are invited to the first talk of the new LED Speaker Series organized by Professor Qiang Zha. The talk entitled “Decolonizing the Academy: Trans-systemic Transformations in Reconciliation and Indigenization” will take place on December 1 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and will be delivered by Dr. Marie Battiste. Learn more and register
