  • Professor Celia Haig-Brown elected to Royal Society of Canada – The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) has elected six York University faculty members as part of the Class of 2022. Recognition by the RSC is the highest honour an individual can achieve in the arts, social sciences and sciences. Read more

  • Assistant Professor Molade Osibodu announced as one of the recipients of York University’s inaugural Black Research Seed Fund – Supported by the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation (VPRI) in collaboration with the Office of the Vice-President Equity, People and Culture (EP&C), the fund was created in support of the research activities of Black academics, with preference given to early-career researchers.   • Alumna Zahra Mawani (BEd ’22) awarded the 2022 York U Alumni Silver Jubilee Scholarship – The scholarship is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence both in and out of the classroom. Read more

  • The September 2022 issue of the UNESCO Chair newsletter is now available – The theme of the issue is ‘Greening education to transform the world’. Read issue

  • Thanks to everyone who attended the Faculty Launch event on September 8. It was good to see everyone in-person and a special thanks to Professor Carl James for his talk titled “Translating and Re-Imagining What it Means to be in Education Relationship with Community”

  • The Graduate Program welcomed incoming students to orientation on August 25 – Thanks to all of the grad students, faculty members and staff who attended the in-person orientation

  • Doctoral Students are reminded that the deadline for the upcoming SSHRC fellowship competition is October 11 – A series of three writing workshops will be held on Thursdays from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. beginning on September 15

  • The launch of our weekly ‘Shut up and Write!’ sessions is September 16 – These sessions are held via zoom on Friday mornings from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend

Service Opportunity:

We are seeking a faculty member to represent the Faculty of Education on York’s SSHRC Explore & Exchange Grants Committee. The appointment is a two-year commitment, ending on June 30, 2023. The appointee should not have any sabbaticals or other leaves scheduled for this two-year period. VPRI encourages consideration of equity, diversity, and inclusion in selecting a Faculty of Education member for this Committee. The Committee meets approximately four to five times per year.

If you are interested in representing the Faculty of Education on the SSHRC Explore & Exchange Grants Committee, please email the Office of the Associate Dean of Research at research@edu.yorku.ca. This is a first-come, first-placed basis appointment
