The Faculty of Education provides an environment where students are encouraged to challenge the status quo to uncover new possibilities in the advancement of education. We support our students to become bold, principled and insightful leaders, because social justice won’t be realized by following the conventional.

Investment in education pays off at York University

Investments made by York University’s Faculty of Education in talent, research, infrastructure and leadership have been recognized by its place in the Top 100 education faculties worldwide as designated by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.

Faculty launches new Five-Year Strategic Plan

The plan outlines the Faculty’s vision and direction for the coming years and is built on its shared values of social justice equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.

Celebrating Canadian changemaker Jean Augustine with full funding of endowed Chair in her name

The $1.5 million federal contribution fully funds the endowed Chair–now over $3 million, achieved through Augustine’s grassroots fundraising and matching funds provided by the University.

Faculty of Education Building Renovations look to future

As York University’s Faculty of Education moves into its second half century of teaching and research, it has finished building renovations designed to meet the needs of students, staff and faculty for today and the future.

Faculty of Education bringing leadership, consulting to the world

The Faculty has created a consulting initiative called ED Global, which will work collaboratively with school boards, educational organizations, governments and diverse communities to help them maximize positive change.

50th Anniversary Celebration

The Faculty commemorated its 50th Anniversary Year honouring five decades of extraordinary education and leadership.

NEW Savitri Ahuja Education Award

Inspired by a beloved teacher who came to Canada from India and re-accredited at York University to continue her passion, the award is given out annually to first-year students who are new to Canada or the first in their family to attend postsecondary education.

Professor Sue Winton appointed York Research Chair in Policy Analysis for Democracy

Winton’s YRC research program will collaborate with multiple public sector organizations to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education privatization in Canada.

Professor Carl James honoured with a Distinguished Research Professorship

James was honored at the Faculty’s spring 2024 convocation ceremony for his exceptional research and impact within and beyond the University.

Teaching & Learning

NEW Certificate in Undergraduate Educational Studies

Students in the Bachelor of Arts Educational Studies program can now earn an Undergraduate Certificate in Educational Development to enhance their preparation and career options in the field.

Faculty of Education responding to need for careers in skilled trades

The Faculty’s Professional Learning Office launched new Technological Education Additional Qualification (AQ) courses, combining classroom learning with on-site experience to help address the shortage of qualified high school teachers.

Launch of the YU Education Alumni Network (YUEAN)

The Faculty and Division of Advancement at York University officially launched the York University Education Alumni Network (YUEAN).

Connecting YU

Education alumni are invited to join Connecting YU, a new mentorship platform that connects current undergraduate students with graduates from York University’s Faculty of Education.
