FAQs

To help you prepare for the conference, we have assembled a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that conference delegates and attendees may have in the lead-up to the conference. If you have questions not addressed by the information in this section, please email childrenandteen@yorku.ca.

For in-person presenters and attendees

I am an in-speaker at the conference. How do I prepare for my panel presentation?

On panels of three papers, presentations should not exceed 15 minutes in length. On panels of two papers, presenters can speak for up to 20 minutes. You will be introduced to your panel chair over email closer to the conference date. They will be responsible for moderating your session and facilitating the Q&A period at the end of all the presentations. If you are using presentation aids (including PowerPoints, videos, etc.), please bring these materials on a USB stick. Try to arrive for your panel at least ten minutes before it begins so that you have adequate time to load your presentation and prepare.

I applied to present at the conference in-person but can no longer attend. Is it possible for me to switch to a virtual presentation format?

Our virtual presentation slots are at capacity, and we cannot accommodate any further requests to present online.

Will all my meals be provided at the conference?

The conference will provide daily breakfast and coffee breaks. Lunches will be self-catered. The conference is hosting several events offering canapes and refreshments. This includes the welcome reception at Toronto Metropolitan University (16 October 2024, 15:00 – 17:45), the cocktail reception at the House of Cool (17 October 2024, 18:00 – 20:00), and the graduate student and early-career researchers’ workshop: Conference Paper to Publication (18 October 2024, 11:30 – 12:30). Some snacks will be provided at the graduate student meetup (16 October 2024, 19:45+).

I did not signal my interest in attending one of the conference events on the registration form but now would like to. Is this possible?

Some events, like the welcome reception, the graduate student meet-up, and the cocktail reception, are open to all conference attendees and registration is not required. If you are interested in participating in the meet-a-mentor session or the publishing workshop, please let the conference organizers know (by emailing childrenandteen@yorku.ca) by 15 September 2024 as these activities require some coordination.

For virtual presenters

I am a virtual speaker at the conference. How do I prepare for my panel presentation?

Based on our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion we offered a limited number of virtual presentation slots to accommodate scholars with accessibility or visa issues. On panels of three papers, presentations should not exceed 15 minutes in length. On panels of two papers, presenters can speak for up to 20 minutes. You will be introduced to your panel chair over email closer to the conference date. You will receive a Zoom link for your session ahead of the conference. Please join this meeting 10 minutes before the panel starts to ensure everything runs smoothly. We will provide technical support for each panel with virtual speakers.

Is it possible for me to watch the plenaries online?

Yes, the plenaries will be available live online.

How can I watch other virtual presentations?

At least one panel per session will be available virtually. An index of links will be shared with virtual conference attendees ahead of the event.
