The Energy Management team provides heating, cooling and power to all academic, administrative, retail, and residences on campus. In order to accomplish this, we generate high pressure steam for heating and chilled water for cooling, and deliver these by way of underground service tunnels to mechanical rooms of each building for distribution to the various heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) units within the building. They also generate and distribute power through our 10 megawatt co-generation plant and associated high voltage electrical distribution system.

Combined heat and power, distributed generation, or recycled energy—is the simultaneous production of two or more forms of energy from a single fuel source. Co-generation power plants often operate at 50 to 70 percent higher efficiency rates than single-generation facilities
