The Glendon English Department is proud to announce that our student, Brenda Martinez Castro, is the winner of the Odessa Prize competition for 2021-2022. The Odessa Prize was originally established through the generosity of York alumnus Irvin Studin, and the competition seeks to reward the best paper written in a fourth-year course at York University during the past academic year. Brenda won the competition with her essay entitled “And food was the dead giveaway”: The Metaphor of Food in What We All Long For” that she wrote for Dr. Lee Frew’s course “Writing Toronto” (EN4643 3.0) offered by the Glendon English program.

Le Département d'anglais de Glendon est fier d'annoncer que notre étudiante, Brenda Martinez Castro, est la gagnante du concours Prix Odessa pour 2021-2022. Le prix Odessa a été créé à l'origine grâce à la générosité d'Irvin Studin, ancien élève de York, et le concours vise à récompenser le meilleur article rédigé dans un cours de quatrième année à l'Université York au cours de l'année universitaire écoulée. Brenda a remporté le concours avec son essai intitulé And food was the dead giveaway : The Metaphor of Food in What We All Long For qu'elle a écrit pour le cours du Dr Lee Frew Writing Toronto (EN4643 3.0) offert par le programme d'anglais à Glendon.

Dans sa citation, le comité du prix écrit :

« C'est un article bien écrit et bien argumenté. Cet essai est très original puisqu'il traite d'une denrée, la nourriture. Cependant, la nourriture est plus qu'une marchandise. Dans l'élaboration de son analyse, Brenda Martinez Castro explore les liens entre la nourriture (sa préparation et sa consommation), le multiculturalisme canadien, la dualité d'identité et d'appartenance entre les immigrants de première et de deuxième génération de la diaspora. Les membres du comité du prix souhaitent féliciter la lauréate.
