Overview
The Nathan Strauss Q.C. Essay Prize in Legal Ethics will be awarded annually for an essay of exceptional merit on any issue relating to legal ethics or professional conduct, preferably with reference to the implications for the practice of law of rapid social and technological changes. The subject of the essay may deal with broad theoretical issues or with a particular substantive area. The winning essay must always be of publishable quality, and will be considered for the Osgoode Hall Law Journal. Full-time students enrolled in any year of the JD or the Graduate Program in Law are eligible to compete. The Nathan Strauss Q.C. Essay Prize in Legal Ethics has been established by Lilly Offenback Strauss in honour of her late husband, Nathan Strauss, a Life Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and a distinguished member of the Ontario bar, whose integrity and exemplary professional conduct were a byword among fellow lawyers and generations of clients. The intent of this Essay Prize is to promote student interest in legal ethics and to stimulate debate about conduct proper to the practice of law as an honourable profession and a force for the good in the community at large.
