Virtual Drop-In Weekly Sessions (MDEM & PhD)
York University has a thriving graduate program in Disaster & Emergency Management, offering both a longstanding Masters degree (MDEM), and a new PhD program starting in September 2025. Drop by for virtual sessions every Wednesday from 12pm-1pm (EST) to meet the Graduate Program Director and the Graduate Program Assistant who will be able to answer any of your questions about the programs, or to direct you to the right place.

As extreme weather and the likelihood of disasters increase, York University opened its new state-of-the-art Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Advanced Disaster, Emergency and Rapid Response Simulation (ADERSIM) Lab, designed to act as an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), thanks to close to $3.5 million in private and public funds.
Residents unprepared for wildland fires, face barriers in implementing prevention measures: York U study
This year, Canada saw the worst wildfire season in its history, with fires destroying homes, displacing thousands of residents, and burning the largest area since contemporary records began in 1983. Much of this damage to communities could be reduced with better wildfire preparedness—but wildland urban interface (WUI) communities often face significant barriers in implementing these improvements, according to a study by York University’s Disaster and Emergency Management researchers.
