Greetings from the Graduate Program in Digital Media, one of the only joint programs in Canada housed in Computational Arts (School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design) and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Lassonde School of Engineering) offering MA/MSc and PhD degrees. Our students work with a group of interdisciplinary faculty members with expertise in creative coding and physical computing, digital fabrication, critical game design and mechanics, assistive technologies, motion capture, bio- and environmental sensing, networked media and interactive installations, computer graphics and creative data visualization, virtual, augmented and hybrid realities, and autonomous machine composition/improvisation systems for music and sonic environments. In addition, Digital Media students also engage with scholars from the many Faculties across York University.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds and are working on a range of artistic, science and engineering-based projects which I invite you to read about on their student profiles. In support of their research and creative work, Digital Media students have access to expertise and technology in a number of facilities, labs and research clusters affiliated with the program which you can learn more about in the Research Excellence section of the website.
In addition, many of our students participate in the intellectual and creative meilleux at Sensorium: The Centre for Digital Arts and Technology. Sensorium bridges disciplines and diverse communities of scholars, artists, and scientists exploring networked connections between people, sentient environments, and ecologies of place. A number of our students are also VISTA scholars and participate in a range of activities advancing vision science through computational and biological research led by the Centre for Vision Research.
Finally, the Digital Media Graduate Student Association is actively involved in student governance and in the program by taking positions on our executive, as well as planning social events and outings.
If you have questions about our program and courses, contacting potential supervisors, or preparing an application, please contact me at longford@yorku.ca.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,

Graduate Program Director.
