Admission Requirements

Preparing your application to graduate studies at York University and/or other interested universities requires research and planning. Some students start preparing their plans for graduate studies as early as two years before they submit their application. Consider the following information below to help guide you through a successful application process.

Note: A portfolio is required for all programs.  Please refer to the detailed entry requirements for further information.

Note for International Applicants: There are currently no funded positions. Should you still wish to apply, you will be considered for a non-funded position during the duration of the program.

Honours degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Digital Media or a related Bachelor’s program, such as an art program that focuses on technology, with at least a B average in the final two years of study.

All applicants are expected to provide a portfolio, a Statement of Interest letter, a curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation.

Applicants must show that they have experience in both programming and the arts and in particular a cross-disciplinary approach. Experience creating art or creative works (including games) using programming languages is required. Those whose formal background in programming is incomplete will be required to take appropriate supplemental undergraduate course(s) in addition to required courses.

Honours degree or equivalent from a recognized university in Digital Media or a related Bachelor’s program, such as computer science, with at least a B average in the final two years of study.

Applicants must show that they have experience in the arts, and in particular a cross-disciplinary approach. Those whose background in the arts is incomplete will be required to take appropriate supplemental undergraduate course(s) in addition to required courses.

To be considered for admission to the MSc Digital Media program, applicants should reach out to potential supervisors in the Lassonde School of Engineering prior to, or immediately following, applying to the program.

Applicants must have a master’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university in a digital media or related program, such as computer science, or an art program that focuses on technology, with at least a B+ average.

Applicants are expected to provide a portfolio, a Statement of Interest letter, a qualifying research paper or similar significant contribution to the field, and two letters of recommendation.

Applicants must show that they have experience in both computer science and the arts and in particular a cross-disciplinary approach.

The PhD Digital Media program is an interdisciplinary program between the Faculty of Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) and the Lassonde School of Engineering. For applicants interested in the PhD Digital Media program with a Lassonde supervisor, we encourage you to reach out to them prior to, or immediately following, applying to the program.
