So, you’re thinking about grad school! Maybe there were a couple of courses you just couldn’t get enough of, or a topic that really interested you? Perhaps there’s a subject or a specialization in which you want to become an expert? Maybe you just want to polish up your critical and communication skills before conquering the job market? There are many fantastic reasons to consider pursuing a graduate degree… and, there can almost as many reasons to feel a little intimidated by the idea. In this session, FGS Dean Alice MacLachlan will take you through everything you need to know that no one told you, streamlining and simplifying the idea of grad school and the process of applying. Join us and find out:

• What are masters and doctorate degrees? What exactly does a grad student do?
• How do I know which school or degree is right for me?
• How do I get from idea to application?
• Whom do I talk to if I have questions about grad school? About my application? How do I approach a potential program or advisor?
• What does a grad school application look like? What will they ask for?

• Tips for a strong application
• Tips for choosing between multiple programs
• How to manage anxiety and expectations

Looking Ahead: Applying to Graduate School in 2027

This session will go over how to best prepare for graduate school applications when you still have a few years to go before formally applying. We’ll talk about application requirements and how you can start, or continue, to meet and exceed them.

This session is meant for folks who are currently in their undergraduate program, and plan on applying to graduate studies at least two years in the future if not more.

You are also welcome to attend if you are no longer in an undergraduate program, but still do not plan on applying to graduate studies for at least two years in the future if not more.
