The CUPE 3903 Ph.D. Completion Fund supports eligible doctoral students in their final term of full-time study.

  1. Registered, full-time, fee-paying York graduate students with demonstrated financial need;
  2. Excluding students registered in programs with program-specific bursaries (generally, professional programs and programs affiliated with the Schulich School of Business— unless they secure a CUPE 3903 assignment).
  3. In their final term of eligibility for full–time status in a doctoral program, they have no scholarship or other form of funding (excluding bursaries) from or through the University in that term.

Eligible students are invited to apply during the following periods:

  • Fall term: September 1 to 30 (awards issued in October);
  • Winter term: January 1 to 31 (awards issued in February);
  • Summer term: May 1 to 31 (awards issued in June).

Allocated funds are posted to the student account of each successful applicant after adjudication in each term.

To apply, complete the Application as well as the Student Financial Profile (SFP) during the applicable application period.

Allocation amounts may vary based on the volume of applications and the number of high–need applications in any given application cycle.

Allocated funds are posted to the student account (STAC) of each successful applicant after adjudication in each term.

Extract from the Collective Agreement:
“The CUPE 3903 Ph.D. Completion Fund is to assist members outside the priority pool who have no funding in the last term of their doctoral studies. On the basis of need, funds will be made available to bargaining unit members registering for their final term of eligibility for full–time status in a doctoral program, who have no scholarship or other form of funding, excluding bursaries) from or through the University in that term. The first priority is summer term funding for those bargaining unit members who held a full teaching assistantship in the previous fall/winter terms.

The bursary will be administered by a four-person committee consisting of two members selected by the Union, one full–time faculty member selected by the Employer, and the Dean of Graduate Studies or designate, using procedures approved by the Labour/Management Committee.” Search
