Professor Christina Sharpe named 2024 Guggenheim Fellow

Profs. Alison Halsall and Jonathan Warren wins the 2023 Eisner Award for Best Academic/Scholarly Work

Alison Halsall and Jonathan Warren received the 2023 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards for Best Academic/Scholarly Work for The LGBTQ+ Comics Studies Reader: Critical Openings, Future Directions. The awards, named after the acclaimed comics creator Will Eisner, honour the best publications and creators in comics and graphic novels.

Two LA&PS Researchers from Humanities Receive SSHRC Funding Among Twelve Recipients

Researchers from York University’s Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) have received a combined $687,686 in funding from the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), through a Connection Grant and Insight Development Grants in 2023, to pursue research initiatives in the areas of knowledge mobilization, artificial intelligence, feminism, environmental humanities and more.

Prof. Christina Sharpe wins prestigious prize for nonfiction

Professor Christina Sharpe was recently awarded the 2023 Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction for her book Ordinary Notes (Knopf Canada, Farrar, Straus and Giroux/Macmillan Publishers, Daunt Books, 2023). The prize, worth $75,000, is given annually for excellence in literary nonfiction, to a work that demonstrates a distinctive voice and a compelling command of language.

Htet Min Lwin named 2024 Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Dissertation Fellow in Buddhist Studies

York University is proud to announce that Htet Min Lwin, doctoral candidate at Humanities and grad associate at York Centre for Asian Research has been awarded a 2024 Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Dissertation Fellowship in Buddhist Studies. The program supports 11 Scholars from around the world for full-time preparation of dissertations in Buddhist Studies.

Our community mourns the passing of Neil Livingston, Humanities PhD Candidate

The York University community is mourning the loss of Neil Marcellus Livingston, 53, a PhD student in Humanities. “I feel truly privileged to have worked with Neil. I will miss the wide-ranging intellectual conversations we had, his insights and humour, and his energy and drive to make a difference. He will be remembered by all of us who were lucky enough to know him as a dear friend with whom we wished we could have spent more time,” Markus Reisenleitner, Neil’s supervisor here at York said.
