Our Program

The Master of Science in Management Practice (MScMP) is a graduate program designed to train professionals to successfully run organizations by focusing on applied research and analysis of business data. The program is developed by the School of Administrative Studies and is offered at York University’s new Markham Centre Campus in partnership with organizations such as IBM, Nielsen, York Region and others. The program offers a variety of specialization options: Accounting, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (not offered yet), Supply Chain Management,  and Management in Professional Context (not offered yet).

Program Structure

The MScMP is offered on a full-time and part-time basis. As an entry prerequisite, the program requires quantitative skills, generally, the statistics obtained in an undergraduate business program. Candidates without any business and/or quantitative background will be required to complete preparatory courses.

The program will train students to:

  • be familiar with key methods of qualitative and quantitative research, data collection and analysis needed for improving an organization’s performance;
  • be familiar with emerging trends and tools in the cognitive technology of data analytics and understand their limitations;
  • be able to apply relevant theories, methodologies, and critical thinking skills to identify and solve organizational/management problems and issues;
  • be able to identify sources of information and data best suited to inform managerial decisions while understanding ethical considerations in using personal data for research;
  • be able to work efficiently in groups and teams and to effectively communicate analyses, outcomes and conclusions to a range of audiences.

The program offers one admission point in the Fall and can be completed within three terms (one year). In the first term, the students take two mandatory foundational courses, and the third can be within their area of focus. The second term is dedicated to courses in the selected focus area, and the third term involves the work on the Major Research Project.
