Postdoctoral Fellows

Ali Akram

Dr. Ali Akram got his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto from the Department
of Immunology and The Institute of Medical Science. During his graduate studies he worked on deciphering factors contributing to immunodominance following viral infection (i.e., Influenza and HIV-1) in relation to arthritis. He is well published in many high impact journals. Following his graduation, he went on to do a postdoctoral fellowship at the University Health Network/UC Berkeley before joining the lab of Dr. Ali Abdul Sater at York University to conduct his current research on the role of TRAF1 in relation to arthritis.

Ali Mirzaesameili

I have a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine with interest in rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory disease, immune response and animal surgeries. My current project involves evaluating the role of TRAF-1 in inflammatory disease by inducing arthritis in mice as an animal model. My hobbies include reading, travelling and playing chess.

Graduate Students

Mayoorey Murugathasan

I am currently a Ph.D. candidate under Dr. Sater’s supervision. I did my BSc in molecular biology and Bio Chemistry at Colombo University, Sri Lanka and my Master’s in analytical chemistry at Eastern Illinois University, USA.

For my Ph.D. thesis at Sater-lab, I investigate two questions. First: Whether chronic moderate exercise programs can promote trained immunity in bone marrow macrophages and what are the mechanisms behind these adaptations in mice? Second: Investigating the roles of Type 1 interferons in bacterial and viral infections.

Apart from science, I enjoy singing, reading, philosophy, and nature. Above all, I have a passion for helping people in need with the right knowledge with the dream of contributing to an unbiased lifestyle for all parts of the world. My favorite immune organelle is mitochondria 🙂

Alita Gideon

Hi 🙂

I am an MSc student in the lab. My research focuses on the relationship between TRAF1 and PKN1 in different blood cancers.
When I am not in the lab, you can find me hiking, eating or chilling with my dog.
Fun fact: I flew an airplane!

Sahib Singh Madahar

Hey everyone! 🙂

My name is Sahib Singh Madahar and I'm an MSc student in the lab. I completed my undergraduate studies at York University in the Biomedical Science program with a minor in Psychology. My research focuses on arthritis and inflammation.
