The President’s University-Wide Teaching Awards at York University recognize excellence in teaching across four categories: tenured faculty with 10+ years of experience, faculty with less than 10 years of experience, contract and adjunct faculty, and teaching assistants. Award recipients, selected by the Senate Committee on Awards, receive $3,000, are honored at convocation, and participate in the annual Teaching in Focus conference. The York University President’s Research Impact Award recognizes full-time faculty whose research significantly impacts communities, public policies, or commercial applications beyond academia, enhancing the university’s research reputation. The award includes a $7,500 internal research grant. Eligible nominees must have tenure-stream appointments at York for at least five years. The award values high-profile, ongoing research impact at local, national, or international levels. The York University President’s Research Excellence Award honors senior full-time faculty Professors with distinguished research achievements, contributing to the university’s international reputation and community life. The $7,500 internal research grant is awarded annually, alternating between two disciplinary clusters. For 2023-2024, it’s open to researchers in Engineering, Science, Technology, Health, and Biomedicine. Nominees must have at least five years of outstanding research at York. This policy defines and sets criteria for York University’s Honorific Professorships: University Professor and Distinguished Research Professor. The University Professor title is awarded for significant contributions to university life, service, teaching, and scholarship. Upon retirement, recipients become University Professor Emeritus/a. Distinguished Research Professors are recognized for sustained, impactful scholarly contributions, with an international reputation. Upon retirement, they become Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus/a. All retiring full-time faculty and librarians receive Emeritus/a status. Faculty on related adjudicative committees are ineligible for nomination during their service.
