Prospective York Apartments Moving Information

Welcome to York Apartments!

We are thrilled to welcome you to York Apartments as your home for the coming year! Our Housing & Conference Services and Residence Life teams are dedicated to making your living experience truly exceptional. We look forward to providing you with a rewarding, enriching, and enjoyable experience in a safe student community that will positively impact your personal, educational, and social growth.

At York apartments, you’ll find a community where you can enjoy an independent lifestyle in a student-friendly and family-oriented environment. It’s important for everyone to understand and follow the guidelines and respect their neighbors to ensure a positive experience for all.

As you move into a high-density apartment building, you may encounter some common issues typical of such residences. We kindly ask all residents to contribute to enhancing the living experience for everyone. While we strive to maintain a peaceful environment, please be aware that, especially with children living in the building, occasional noise is to be expected.

Move-in Steps

Plan your arrival to York University and make sure to plan your day with enough time to check-in before the Housing Office closes. The Housing Office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm (excluding holidays).

Students moving in may contact Parking Services for a short-term parking pass that can be used during their move-in period. Please note, without a pass, cars will be ticketed as per the Parking Enforcement policy.

If you need to book an elevator key for your move-in, please complete the Elevator Booking Request Form no later than 48 hours prior to your move-in. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays. Once approved, you’ll have a 2 hour window to use the elevator for your move-in.

Please note that all York apartments buildings have elevators except for Passy Crescent residences (townhouse-style residences), where you might need to navigate a couple of flights of stairs depending on your unit assignment.

We kindly ask that you do not hold the elevator doors open, as this can cause mechanical issues.

When you arrive on campus, please visit the Housing & Conference Services office at Assiniboine 340 to pick up your keys. Remember to bring all required documentation, including proof of insurance. You will receive detailed instructions for move-in and key pick-up via email before your arrival. Once you have your keys, you can proceed to your residence building or complex.

Upon reaching your residence, unload your vehicle and then move it to a nearby paid parking lot. Please avoid parking in designated disability or staff/emergency spots to prevent fines. Utilize the interactive campus map to locate your building and nearby parking options.

Students moving in may contact Parking Services for a short-term parking pass that can be used during their move-in period. Please note, without a pass, cars will be ticketed as per the Parking Enforcement policy. If you require a permanent parking spot, contact Parking Services to arrange for a paid monthly permit.

As you settle into your residence, there are a few important documents you’ll need to complete, sign and submit:

  1. York apartments key control form.
  2. York apartments inventory list – Please complete and submit this form within 72 hours of your move-in day. Ensure it accurately reflects the condition of your unit, including furniture and any minor damages. Housing & Conference Services will refer to this document to assess any damage or cleaning charges upon your move-out. If you notice any issues during your move-in, please promptly report them to Housing & Conference Services. Your cooperation helps us maintain the best living environment for all residents.

What to bring to York apartments

Late arrivals

If you anticipate arriving outside of our regular office hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), please let us know by emailing apstatus@yorku.ca. It’s important to notify Housing & Conference Services to ensure a smooth move-in experience. Failure to do so may result in your apartment being cancelled and offered to the next student on the waitlist.

York Apartments Residential Tenancy Agreement and Handbook

Your residential tenancy agreement is a vital document that outlines the terms and conditions of your stay at York Apartments. It covers your residence fees, available services, and the rules you need to follow. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to review this agreement before your move-in.

When you sign your residential tenancy agreement, you’re also agreeing to uphold the code of student rights and responsibilities and all other guidelines in the York apartments resident handbook. This handbook provides essential information on living in residence, from safety protocols to how to submit maintenance requests. It’s important to familiarize yourself with its contents to ensure a smooth and enjoyable living experience.
