Financial Sustainability

Focusing on the financial wellbeing of our employees and the long-term sustainability of York, taking the current economic climate and fiscal realities into account.

Respect

For the bargaining process, the union and its leadership.

Accountability

To our community.

Updates

After much hard work by both parties, the bargaining teams for the University and CUPE 1356-2 have now reached a tentative agreement. This tentative agreement is subject to ratification.

The bargaining teams for the University and CUPE 1356-2, the union representing York’s approximately 70 Student Safety Services employees supporting goSAFE and CCTV, are in the process of negotiating a renewal collective agreement.

Employees in the CUPE 1356-2 bargaining unit are in part-time roles of less than 24 hours per week, most of whom are students.

The parties began meeting on June 16, 2023, and have met 15 times to date, most recently with the assistance of a provincially-appointed conciliation officer.

On May 29, 2024, CUPE 1356-2 requested a no-board report, which means that the union will be in a legal strike position at 12:01AM on Monday, June 24, 2024.  The parties are scheduled to meet again on June 21, 2024.

The University is hopeful that a negotiated renewal agreement can be reached.
