Project Description:

The project investigates the direct and indirect effects of a grade 12 course, “Deconstructing Anti-Black Racism in the Canadian and North American Context” (IDC 4U), on adolescents. Employing a pre-post design, data will be collected from approximately 200 grade 12 students enrolled in the anti-Black racism elective course and a control class. The study spans from October 2023 to June 2024, with the goal of analyzing the impact on perceptions of racism, racial attitudes, sense of belonging, academic confidence, aspirations, and educational outcomes. The research is novel, addressing the limited understanding of prolonged interventions in naturalistic school settings, particularly with adolescents.

Project Description:

The project aims to assess the feasibility and potential impact of adapting the Bingocize® program, which combines bingo with physical activity, for autistic children through Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), with a specific focus on collaboration with Autism Ontario. With approximately 1 in 66 children in Canada being autistic and facing challenges in emotional and social development, the study seeks to address the lower levels of physical activity typically observed in autistic children compared to their neurotypical peers.
