Professors Mark Schwartz and Darryl Reed from the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies are among the most productive business ethics scholars on this planet.

In a published study, these scholars were identified as being among the top 15 most productive business ethics scholars in the world from 2001-2010. The study, titled “Individual Scholar Productivity Rankings in Business Ethics Research,” was published in the Revista Innovar Journal (Warnick et al., 2014).

Based on their analysis of six publications from 2001-2010, the authors of the study ranked the LA&PS scholars as being among the most prolific in the world as follows: Professor Mark Schwartz from the School of Administrative Studies, who tied as the 5th most productive business ethics scholar in the world, and business and society Professor Darryl Reed from the Department of Social Science who tied for 10th.

The study examined the number of business ethics publications by academics in six leading journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics Quarterly, and Business & Society, considered by the authors to be the most respected journals in the business ethics field, along with three highly-rated management journals: the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly.

Three other professors from York University — Professors Andrew Crane, Dirk Matten and Linda Thorne — also ranked highly in this study, highlighting the university’s contribution to research and productivity in the field of business ethics.
