Vanier College Productions presents Shrek: The Musical. The show will run Tuesday to Saturday at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., until March 10 at the Fred Thury Studio Theatre, 258 Vanier College, Keele Campus. On March 9, there will be an accessible performance at 2 p.m.
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film by the same name, Shrek: The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy-tale adventure: “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek.” The musical stays true to the film and tells the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey accompanied by a wise-cracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. A short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and more than a dozen other fairy-tale misfits, and the result is a messy situation that calls for a real hero – one by the name of Shrek.
The production is based on the original book and lyrics are by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. Shrek: The Musical was originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. The original musical was directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford.
Vanier College Productions’ Shrek: The Musical is directed by Justin Büyüközer, with music directed by Athena So. The production is choreographed by Shannon Murtagh and Jade Silman, and stage managed by Aysha Mantilla.
