Professor Sylvia Bawa announces the publication of her co-edited book, Truth Commissions and State Building, by McGill-Queen’s University Press.

This book examines truth commissions’ mandates, methods, outcomes and legacies and how they shape state-building processes in transitional and restorative justice contexts. Professor Bawa states that “our limited goal in the book was to broadly map the expanding global appeal and dimensions of truth commissions as a model of transitional state building.”

Professor Bawa has a stand alone chapter titled Decolonization, Gender and Transitional Justice in Post-Colonial Africa

The book is the end product of a SSHRC funded insight grant, of which Professor Bawa was a co-investigator, led by the eminent human rights scholar, Prof. Bonny Ibhawoh (McMaster University) and Jasper Ayelazuno (UDS, Ghana) as co-investigators.

There was a book launch on the 25th of January, which took place in person, and virtually.
