The LA&PS Research Office is pleased to introduce one of the LA&PS Postdoctoral Fellows, Kennedy Opande. Opande completed his PhD at the Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies, University of Nairobi in Anthropology. Opande will work with supervisor Denielle Elliott, a Professor in the Departments of Anthropology and Social Science. Professor Elliott holds a York Research Chair in Injured Minds and is the Deputy Director of the Institute for Technoscience and Society.
Opande’s project is titled, “An ethnographic study of neuro-technology flows in East Africa.” Opande’s findings from this study will be helpful in designing “culturally relevant” neurological interventions in Kenya and East Africa, as well as understanding global flows of biotechnologies, and inequities, between the North and South. The findings will also contribute to recommendations on how to improve care and treatment for populations with neurological conditions. Opande’s research falls under a LA&PS initiative Championing Emerging Black Scholars.
