LA&PS Professor Jack Rozdilsky explores COVID-19 containment strategies in The Conversation article

In a piece published by The Conversation on March 14, 2020, LA&PS Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) Professor Jack Rozdilsky discusses the gradual progression of multi-national containment strategies in efforts combating the COVID-19 health crisis.

Rozdilsky explores the actions being taken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, including the non pharmaceutical interventions and social distancing measures across various sectors which have been introduced in recent weeks.

While many of these large-scale disruptions may be seen as inconvenient or unwelcome, Rozdilsky stresses that haphazard responses and inaction at this crucial stage could lead to worse consequences.

"COVID-19 will be a real test of Canada's disaster management system in ways that it has not been tested in recent years," Rozdilsky states. "We have moved from a preparedness standpoint to response. The tone has shifted from 'if' to 'when', and 'when' has become 'now'."
