It is my absolute pleasure to acknowledge Dr. Porporato for always going above and beyond in tirelessly supporting her colleagues, particularly junior faculty members. Without ever asking for the recognition for which she is so deserving, Dr. Porporato serves as a constant and invaluable source of guidance, assistance and support, particularly in helping new faculty navigate the waters of a large department. In addition, Dr. Porporato’s kindness is evidence that scholastic strength does not have to replace benevolence; rather she reflects how these traits can complement each other to bring about collaborative and innovative work among a diverse faculty. As a result, Dr. Porporato serves as a role model for future women leaders in academia for embodying the sincerity, productivity and leadership that should be the pillars of the academy and for motivating other women to do the same.
