Researchers at the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) have been awarded $586,394 in funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
SSHRC Insight Development Grants (IDGs) support early-stage research. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. The program supports short-term research development projects, of up to two years, proposed by individuals or teams. IDGs are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight Program.
“This important funding helps our researchers in the social sciences and humanities continue their critically important work on some of the most pressing issues of our time,” said Dean J.J. McMurtry. “LA&PS has always been about producing research that has real impact in the world. This funding will go a long way to supporting this goal.”
This year, 10 LA&PS researchers have received a total funding of $586,394 under the February 2022 Insight Development Competition.

“The SSHRC IDG is a very important program for LA&PS faculty. Early-career researchers developing their funded research programs have had consistent success, and it is really heartening to see colleagues in their first or second year at York winning these awards. It is also an ideal opportunity for established researchers embarking on new projects. I am really pleased to see recognition of the strength of our investigator-driven research programs as well, and right across the humanities, social sciences & the professional studies” shared Ravi de Costa, associate dean of Research & Graduate Studies.
