I hope my research will provide valuable insights and practical strategies for municipalities to enhance their resilience against climate change.
Project Description:
My DARE research project, "Innovation and Municipal Climate Change Adaptation," focused on exploring innovative solutions and adaptation strategies used by municipalities across Canada to enhance resilience against climate change. The project involved an in-depth analysis of case studies from a leading research organization dedicated to reducing global risks by accelerating public participation in research, policy, and development programs. The case studies covered five key areas: Extreme Rainfall, Extreme Heat, Extreme Weather, Extreme Wildfires, and Climate Resilient Infrastructure. I meticulously compiled and categorized data on various aspects, including triggers, technologies, policies and processes, outcomes, lessons learned, stakeholder engagement, funding sources, time frames, adaptation barriers, and the scale of impact. The goal was to identify effective practices and provide actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners to improve municipal resilience against extreme weather events. Throughout this project, I utilized qualitative research methods and engaged in extensive data analysis to ensure the comprehensiveness and reliability of my findings. The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) – Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members.
