Bachelor of Arts, French and Mass Communications
2021-2022 Advancing Black Students Stream
Sherrill Sutherland has had over 10-year experience in the Media and Broadcasting industry. Her journey began with a six-week internship at CBC Television, during which she was finalizing her French and Mass Communication degree at York, as well as attending the Broadcast Journalism program at Seneca@York. This opportunity led her to various roles (editorial assistant, associate producer, writer) on a number of different television news shows including The National and News Network. She moved to The Globe and Mail as a producer for the newspaper’s first live to tape video show. Using the skills acquired from the broadcast world, Sherrill helped develop and foster The Globe’s push into video. Four years into her time at The Globe, she took on a new challenge by joining the Opinion team. Her role as a content editor includes developing story ideas, analyzing audience data, editing pieces from both staff writers and writers from outside The Globe and finding authors to contribute interesting essays for publication.
With a strong belief that support is the key to success, Sherrill hopes to give Black students the confidence that can help them navigate through the school to work transition.
