Rhiannon Mosher
Senior Policy Advisor, Behavioural Insights Unit - Treasury Board Secretariat
Graduate Program in Social Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 2016
After defending her PhD dissertation in September 2015, Dr. Mosher worked as a Course Director at York University’s Department of Anthropology. While she loved teaching and working in academia, she wanted a more stable career where she could contribute to the social good while continuing to conduct, write and present on research as well as teach or mentor. After a lot of research into career paths of other anthropologists and social scientists, Dr. Mosher decided that working in the public sector might be a good fit for her. You can read more about her career path and decision making process in CASCA'S Culture newsletter.
Dr. Mosher joined the Ontario Public Service in 2018 through the Ontario Internship Program – a paid internship for recent graduates and a great opportunity to enter the public service. After working as a Policy Advisor for the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (12 months), and then the Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs (6 months), she landed in her current position in February 2020 as Senior Policy Advisor for the Behavioural Insights Unit in the Treasury Board Secretariat. Dr. Mosher works with a small, interdisciplinary team that operates as an internal consultancy to support the application of behavioural science across the Ontario government. Her team collaborates with partners across Ontario’s ministries, agencies, and municipalities – and even occasionally with the federal government and academics – to help improve government programs and services through human-centered design.
