Emily Hatfield
Marketing Manager, PSR Brokerage
Communication Studies, Bachelor of Arts (BA) - Honours 2015
After graduation I left my position as Campus Representative at Warner Brothers Canada and started a full-time position as a Social Media Associate at a marketing company called ChizComm Ltd. in North York. During my (almost) 3 years at the company, I helped to grow the Digital Marketing department from 2 to 12 associates and consequently climbed the ladder from Associate to Director. I am constantly hungry and eager to learn more, so I made the difficult decision of leaving the company to pursue a more dynamic position at a real estate brokerage downtown as Marketing Manager. I've also spent time traveling some of the UK/Europe, which I highly recommend. Either take the time to do either during school (one of the exchange programs) or after graduation. You won't regret it.The Communications program at York gave me the skills and background knowledge I needed to enter the Marketing space confidently and with great promise. One of my favorite courses was the 2nd year Advertising course with Natalie Coulter. She was knowledgeable, warm, open to all ideas and kept every class interesting. Also, it is vital that you check out the Communication Studies Students Association. I spent all 4 years of my time at York as a member of this group, first as a Public Relations Coordinator and lastly as a Co-President in 2015. You get the opportunity to meet professionals in the industry at panels on campus, visit media outlets downtown and receive seminars on all things Communications from Journalism to PR. Being a member of the CSSA allowed me to make friends and network with classmates that I am still in contact with today. If it is still around, join!
